California State Univeristy was recently hit by a group of hackers who managed to successfully steal personal data, including social security numbers, of 59,000 people. The attack happened about three weeks ago and has been kept under wraps while the Univeristy notified those affected so they could begin to take care of the mess. According to Yahoo! News, "Identity theft is considered the nation's fastest-growing crime and last year more than 9.9 million Americans were victims." Computer security experts will likely be in high demand for many years to come to help combat rising computer crimes.

o ya? like 6 months ago i got a letter from Wells Fargo saying that my personal information may have been stolen. Apparently 4 computers were stolen from someplace that could have had personal information on them. so they gave me 1 year of identity theft protection for free. lol

Nice ref. ^_^. I was at a presentation yesterday by a banker who was talking about credit cards and he said to file a police report if you think someone may have stolen your identity. That way you can get on file with the major credit bureaus so the thief can't ruin your credit reputation.
